Romy, what are horn flare frequencies of your horns? I understand that both are Tractrix. My guess is that the midbass is 125Hz with a sealed rear chamber and 4" throat. Correct?
They tunes for 115Hz and pushed in room dow...

Sure, I heard, they always sound quite awful and they are an illustration of a wishful but wrong thinking. First of all their tweeter are curved (!!!) into…. something that could be only theoretically called a horn. What was in the mind of a des...

Since the Macondo Horns were bult the selected few who had opportunity to listen them we able to “get” what Macondo is all about sound-wise. Among all audio advantages that Macondo does sounicly I do have one sadistic experiment that I conduct w...

You are very much correct. All existing critical mass of knowledge and practices about hors is completely irrelevant for a home use and partially if user’s demands are more evolved then a typically-Moronic: “look the saxophone sounds like the real on...

first post... but I recognize quite a few friends here.. so, my straight horns... I like them very much.. I built mine similar in style to what Greg B linked, but obviously much smaller.. mine are just under eight feet long (length of a sheet&nb...

Mats, I do not know who is Jeffrey is, anyhow, your horns look nicer this time. You need to figure out now what would sound more interesting: the 8PS21 at its higher knee or the Altec at it’s lower knee. The important would be that beside thier absol...

Hello John,The woofer is Fane Studio 8M and throat diameter on the 115Hz horn is 5.56".The initial 4.5" depth of the throat is made up by 6 MDF pieces with rough edges (awaiting bondo smoothing).I can easily add 3/4" pieces to the throat section to m...
For years, I used to have passive line level filters and tube amps - single ended 45's and 2A3's.
To make a long story short I am much happier now. Screw tubes ! ( Don't hate me. )
Kerry, I do not think that som...

Part 5: HornsIt was quite bad, bad on all horns…..
The first was the “new horns guy” …

This year behaved quite nicely. Seeing me he immediately told that he has not...

Chris, I have no experience with good sounding SS amplifier that might drive high sensitive horns. I also have no expertise to build such an amp. From what I trued before I have learned that in order to sound more or less acceptable the SS should run...

Why not enclose it in a horn shape? After all, it makes sense for the facing surface to be circular rather than square, and a cone will have the best structural properties, as well as having the closest kinship with the rest of the stack....

I mean for all intended purpose horns has restricted radiation pattern and usually larger size then direct radiators. I do not see any needs to use horns for private outdoor installation. In our house we have a lot of outdoorsy live and I did thi...

I suppose something like this, but attractively sculpted, and without the vertical partitions, could be an interesting omnidirectional horn to put in a garden. Rather like a mobile sculpture, but with its dynamics in the auditory range. It would cert...

A few months back a audio guy visited me and after a listening session I asked him if he can report any problems with sound. He reported that he hears a slightly more prolonging decay at upper bass then what he suspect to be. I knew about this effect...
Now if you design a TH for 70 hz, you can use it from 35 hz up to 140 hz, and that could match up to your 142hz front Upper Bass horn. With this solution you completely eliminate the need for a Folded horn midbass channel, that ...

I came across an article:http://www.ultrahighendreview.com/enigmacoustics-sopranino-super-tweeter-review that introduced electrostatic tweeter that might be interesting. The company has a web site that is to unpleasant to reread/navigate: http://www....

Are those photos, or "renderings"? If the former, and that project actually exists, someone put up a LOT of money for it!
With respect to the "sluts", the blurb tells that the holes in the horns make different sounds that relate to the "elements"....

Gargoyle, I have not made paper horns to amplify bass, but only to use as "wave guides", to +/- "shape" the sound. My results so far agree with Romy's theory, that the paper horns begin to eat energy when I used them "too low". In this case I used ...

Are there any current sources for large horns available in the USA or that can ship here, I have always done Array speakers and I want to jump into the horns arena but finding large diameter horns is a challenge....

Romy, I'm very proud that you are following me and commenting my achievements.I just don't understand why you are doing it in a manner that you are the one and others are idiots and morons. If you don't understand others, you can ask them questions. ...

A few years ago a Russian guy, Murat form Moscow, popped at this forum
with his ideas to build multichannel horn installation, that in his words would
be the “best in the world”.

I have been intrigued by the Altec or similar Multicellular horns for a while. At least, in the midrange application of 500hz - 5K they look very interesting. I doubt of their high frequency capabilities but for midrange duty with a suitable 2" drive...

We have two models with different upper bass horns, one is indeed a 140hz horn (77 cm diameter) and the original, bigger horn at 110 hz (92 cm diameter) Both tactrix both made from the same materials (MDF) and finished in the same automotive finish.T...

My COVID-19 brain fog has finally lifted. I have been using HORNRESP as the gold standard for horn design. Upon reflection I forgot that we ultimately listen to the sound produced and not the beautiful computer simulated SPL profile. So I ...

I have found that with horns i can go much farther regarding angle and create a big image while retaining a solid center image and depth. The absence of early first reflections has alot to do with this phenomenon. I might not go that far in this room...

My current speakers are Edgarhorns with the straight 80hz upper-bass shell. The bass never sounded correct to me. The problems with Edgar's mid-bass are well documented at this site and elsewhere. I tried some simple modifications to the crossover...

I'd like to ask if anyone sees and appreciable problem with the following.I'm trying to arrange a 4-way, 3 horns sitting on top of a big bass box. As I have it the 42cm midrange horn (800-8k) is in front of the 95cm lower midrange horn (250-800hz). T...

Hi Roman, hi all... intriguing post and interesting questions, as I've been for about 20 years a triode and, before, a tube user and a glowing-in-the-dark maniac. My experience...I purchased - years ago - an Hiraga 20W which I used as a bass enclosure...
